Goals and Objectives
Goal
Based upon interactions with online resources and readings, students will understand the story of corn as a golden thread running through the agricultural history of North America from Pre-Columbian times to the present.
Specific Objectives
Upon completion of the learning activities in the Story of Corn Module, students will be able to:
- Retell the general story of corn from Pre-Columbian times to the present.
- Appreciate the place of corn in the diet, folklore and culture of many Indian groups.
- Recognize how corn came to be a significant agricultural product of the Midwest from pioneer times to the present.
- Identify by-products made from corn.
- Describe how scientific advancement has genetically altered corn species to reach specific outcomes.
- List important issues in today's production and marketing of corn.
