Students will examine a photograph of the unique compass plant. Clues to interpretation of the photograph will lead them to discover the natural properties of this interesting plant. Because the lower leaves of the plant orient themselves north and south, pioneers used the plant as a way of orienting themselves directionally while traversing the prairies.
